10 Life Changing Quotes from a Book You May Have Never Heard Of

Welcome to the book of Sirach. When I originally published this post over 2 years ago I was shocked by the positive feedback with over 3k views. The book is from the Old Testament.  Unfortunately, this book is not included in most Protestant bibles because it contains many wise, practical maxims on how to live a virtuous life. The book was believed to have been written somewhere between 200-175 B.C.E. Some historians claim that it was authored by King Solomon.  This book was used as early as the 2nd century A.D as a basic guide to the then nascent Christian church.

I have turned to this book many times in my life for it's timeless, yet simple wisdom. I believe that it's lessons can be applied to people of all faiths.  I kind of like to call it Catholic Confucianism.

Here are some:

1."Do not become a beggar by feasting with borrowed money, when you have nothing in your purse." Sirach 18:33

2."In all you do remember the end of your life, and then you will never sin." 7:36

3.."Glory and dishonor come from speaking; a man's tongue is his downfall." 5:13"

4."A wise man is cautious in everything." 18:27

5."One who trusts others is light minded." 19:4

6."If you pursue justice, you will obtain it and wear it as a glorious robe." 27:8

7."Many have fallen by the edge of the sword, but many more have fallen because of the tongue." 28:18

8."In all of your work be industrious and no sickness will overtake you," 31:22

9 "Trust in God, and he will help you; hope in him, and he will make your ways straight..." 2:6

10 "An enemy will speak sweetly with his lips, but in his mind he will plan to throw you into a pit..." 12:16
